Our Lord Jesus Christ, being seated on the right hand of God, sent, as He had promised, the Holy Ghost upon the Apostles, who, after His Ascension, continued in prayer at Jerusalem, in company with the Blessed Virgin, awaiting the performance of His promise.

Let us pray in like manner with the Church: "Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and kindle in them the fire of Thy love."

Gospel Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. John, 14. 23-31. [St. John tells us that Jesus had foretold to His disciples the coming of the Holy Ghost; it was left for the Paraclete to complete the training of the Apostles and to endow them with strength and divine light.]
IN illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suís Si quis díligit me, suis: mónem meum servábit et Pater meus díliget eum, et ad eum veniémus, et mansiónem apud eum faciémus: qui non díligit me, sermónes meos non servat. VERE dignum et justum est, æquum et salutáre, nos tibi semper et ubíque grátias ágere, Dómine sancte, Pater omnípotens, ætérne Deus: per Christum Dóminum nostrum: Qui ascéndens super omnes cœlos, sedénsque ad déxteram, tuam promíssum Spíritum Sanctum (hodiérna die) in fílios adoptiónis effúdit. Quaprópter profusis gáudiis, totus in orbe terrárum mundus exsúltat.
